“The objective of self-service analytics is to create value from data by leveraging the intellectual capital and untapped curiosity of the enterprise.”

— Gregory P. Steffine, Author of Think Fast!

  • Why the focus on self-service?

It began when business leaders starting seeing IT as a roadblock to innovation, transformation, and responsiveness. The natural response was for technology leaders to then see business stakeholders as unreasonable and unwilling to accept the kind of thoughtful rigor required to make solutions perform and last. As time passed and technology evolved, so did everyone's thinking. Today, self-service has become the model for empowering business leaders with access to data and technology they need to drive effective decision-making.

  • Why include additional perspectives?

I like what Ken Blanchard says: "None of us is as smart as all of us." I'm a big believer in the synergistic power of the group and the value that results from effective collaboration. We all have different skills and capabilities and experiences that help form our perspectives and approach to work. I thought it would be of great benefit to my readers to hear what other experienced pros had to say about the topics I cover.

  • Is this a technical resource?

Think Fast! is not a technical resource on how to architect, deploy, or govern a self-service environment. It assumes you or your colleagues already know how to do that. Rather, it focuses on what we believe are the most important and often forgotten aspects of people, processes, technology, and data necessary for self-service success. In fact, my team and I condensed years of hands-on field work into the 26 insights you need to think about to make self-service analytics really work.
